SHARMILA BALANATHAN
Miss Balanathan graduated from the University of Otago in 1999 and underwent surgical training in Queensland and Victoria. She has attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Vascular Surgery in 2011 and was awarded the AVT travelling fellowship in endovascular surgery with the prestigious Angiology Group in Leipzig, Germany.
Sharmila has public hospital appointments at The Alfred Hospital, Box Hill Hospital and Austin Hospital where she has developed wide-ranging skills in complex vascular surgery, renal transplantation, trauma surgery and renal access surgery. She splits her time between her private and public practice, as she is dedicated to public service and training the next generation of surgeons, as well as philanthropic foreign aid work.
Sharmila has a special interest in minimally invasive endovenous treatment of varicose veins. There has been significant advances in the latest technology for the treatment of varicose veins, which greatly improves patient outcomes by reducing pain, swelling, bruising, operative time and other more serious consequences of varicose vein surgery. Sharmila also treats spider/surface veins using injection sclerotherapy, which is conducted in our rooms on an outpatient basis.
